Go Large

Having a rice cooker is enormously convenient for food prep.  It takes the guesswork out of cooking and clears space on the stove when cooking a multi-part meal.

Rice cookers are available in a variety of sizes from mini rice cookers to industrial. Today we are going to look at large types of rice cookers for home and commercial cooking.

Features to Look For

rice cooker features

A rice cooker can be as simple or as complicated as you need or want it to be.  In their simplest forms, a rice cooker has an on button and an automatic switch off.

You need to see the following features in finding what is the best large rice cooker:

  • Convenience
  • Efficiency
  • Smart Technology (Fuzzy LogicMiCom, and IH)
  • Easy-cleanup

There are so many advantages of rice cookers that are still underrated. It is only when you start using one that you understand how beneficial it is for having one.

In their most complicated form, it can double as a warmer/slow-cooker/pressure cooker.  Do you want a multi-purpose appliance? Or do you want something that simply cooks rice? You can easily learn how to use a rice cooker at anytime!

When you have finally got the real value of how rice cookers work then for sure you will be interested in finding out more options. Read along to see what is the best large rice cooker.

The Budget-Friendly Option – Black + Decker 20 Cup Multi-Use Rice Cooker

Available for less than $45, this is the most basic rice cooker on our list.  It has 2 modes, cook and warm.

You flick the switch one way to cook and, when your rice is done, the rice cooker automatically switches over from cook to warm. This rice cooker comes with a removable steamer basket to steam vegetables or proteins while your rice cooks.

This rice cooker can be used in a limited fashion for other things.  It is not the best appliance for “cooking” other dishes, but does a good job of warming liquid-based meals such as soups and stews.

It would, however, probably be best to stick to rewarming those dishes rather than actually cooking them in this rice cooker.  If you are a value-oriented shopper who is just looking to cook large amounts of rice, this is a great option for you.

The Classic Option – Tiger JAZ-A18U FH Rice Cooker

Tiger brand rice cookers are a staple in many Asian kitchens.  They range from straight forward and simple, like this model, to complex work horses like the JBA-T10U-WY discussed below.

This model can be found for under $120 and is a nice compromise for a consumer who wants more than the basic options offered by the Black and Decker, but may not be looking to cook anything other than rice in their rice cooker.

Unlike the Black and Decker, the JAZ has a lockable lid and a keep warm feature designed to last all day. It still only has two modes, cook and keep warm and is not programmable.

While this rice cooker does not come with all of the bells and whistles other models are equipped with, it is good option for those consumers who frequently cook larger quantities of rice and want to keep warm for long periods of time.

The Frequent Option – Tiger JBA-T10U-WY Micom Rice Cooker

This Japanese-made rice cooker is the most expensive on our list at approximately $250, but is also the best reviewed.  This is also the only rice cooker on our list with a delay start option.

This is a great feature for those who want to set their rice to in the morning to be freshly cooked in the evening. There are also additional programmable features with this model including brown rice, porridge, slow cook and steam.

This rice cooker also features a removable steamer basket and inner lid for easy rice cooker cleanup. The steamer basket allows vegetable and proteins to be cooked along with the rice simultaneously and in one pot.

This is the best rice cooker for those looking to cook and keep warm large amounts of rice on a daily basis.

The Incidental Rice Cooker – The Instant Pot

instant pot

This last entry on our list is stretching the definition of a large (10+ cup) rice cooker as it is neither a rice cooker, nor can it cook 10 cup at a time.  Our last entry on this list is the Instant Pot available for under $200.

Marketed as a programmable pressure cooker, this appliance can cook up to 6 cups of rice in as little as 12 minutes. You could, therefore, have 12 cups of rice in 24 minutes, rather than the 30-40 minutes other rice cookers take, co technically it counts as 10+cups.

The Instant Pot does have a keep warm function, but it can be difficult to program and use, which could lead to overcooked rice. The Instant Pot is also a great option for those with limited counter or storage space as it is a rice cooker/slow cooker/pressure cooker all in one appliance approximately the size of just a rice cooker.
