When I first made vegan butter at home, it was unbelievable. I had no idea that it was possible to make such delicious plant based butter at home!

With some try and testing, this dairy free vegan butter has turned into a real buttery taste. The key is almond flour.

Mostly, I was shocked at how easy making vegan butter is. If you intend to use this vegan butter for cooking or baking, simply omit adding almond flour.

Vegan Butter Ingredients

Homemade Vegan Butter ingredients with coconut oil, almond powder, nutritionist yeast, salt, canola oil and salt

What is vegan butter made of?

Best Coconut Oil for Vegan Butter: I use refined coconut oil for this vegan butter recipe. It doesn’t have a strong coconut taste or flavor. Avocado oil also works. My best experience is with refined coconut oil.

Canola Oil: The key for oil in making vegan butter is to use neutral oil. Canola oil does not have much flavor, but it still makes the butter creamy.

Almond Powder: This is the ingredient which changes the taste and flavor of vegan butter dramatically. But if you’re baking, or cooking something in a fry pan, I don’t add the almond powder.

Nutritional Yeast: If you would like to add buttery flavor, nutritional yeast is great. Don’t worry if you’re gluten free, there’s plenty of gluten free varieties.

Soy Milk: Any plant based milk works if you need to avoid soy. Choosing a neutral flavor is good. Soy milk and apple cider vinegar combination creates a nice buttery flavor.

Turmeric: To put a color on and looks buttery.

This butter alternative for vegans is super easy to make!

If you bought a solid block of refined coconut oil, put it in a bowl and heat it up over hot water to melt it. Mix up almond, salt, apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast, soy milk and a pinch of turmeric in a bowl. Then gradually add coconut oil and canola oil with a whisk until it gets creamy.

That’s it!

Important!

If you use this vegan butter for cooking and baking, omit the almond powder. This is because almond powder can stick to a frying pan, and it’s flavor may not be called for in your baking dish.

  • If your room temperature is cold, the ingredients gets creamy quickly. My suggestion is to keep all the ingredients and butter molds ready. This way you can mix up ingredients and molding smoothly and quickly.
  • Using a whisk is enough but if you make a lot of this dairy free butter, a hand mixer is useful.

Serve!
