How to Make BBQ Sauce

Simple, fresh and super tasty BBQ sauce ready at home in 15 minutes! There’s just no need to buy from the shops anymore. Smokey, delicious and vegan friendly – so much better than shop-bought!

BBQ Sauce

So, the other day, I’m not ashamed to admit, I had a craving for vegan nuggets. I had to have them! So, I made tofu nuggets from scratch at home. So tasty, and they satisfied my craving

Of course, in my view, a good nugget is only as good as the BBQ sauce that goes with them. I really don’t go for shop bought BBQ sauce, as there’s so many preservatives in them.

That’s why I made it from the scratch, just mixing some ingredients I had. So, your new go to, ready in no time, BBQ sauce coming up!

Is BBQ sauce vegan?

BBQ sauce adds rich flavour. It’s versatile for vegan hotdogs, burgers and more. It’s thick, sweet and full of flavor. Unfortunately, not all the barbecue sauce is vegan. Only a few brands are vegan. Often anchovies are among the ingredients. Or sugar may be processed by bone char for whitening.

About this Sauce

For me, the best vegan BBQ sauce is easy to make, rich, smokey, sweet and full of flavour. What makes the sauce richer is fruits and vegetables. Tomato is key and must be a base for this recipe

This homemade vegan bbq sauce means you will never need to buy it at the shop again. It’s much tastier and healthier! And made in just 15 minutes

How to Make BBQ Sauce

Add all the ingredients into a small pan and stir the ingredients. Start heating at medium heat for 1 minute and then low heat for 1 minute. Make sure the bottom is not sticking to the pan or burning by staring.

Ingredients for bbq sauce recipe

Vegan Worcestershire Sauce: What make BBQ sauce richer and flavorful are fruits and vegetables. Instead of cooking them for hours, I used shop-bought vegan Worcestershire sauce. Anni’s Homegrown is vegan.

Sugar: I use brown cane sugar for this recipe. It’s not washed out by bone char. The base of this recipe is tomato. How much sugar you would like to add is totally up to you. The amount of sugar I use is much less than shop-bought barbecue sauce.

Vinegar: I use balsamic vinegar. If you do not have it, apple cider vinegar can be used. Both are tasty.

Garlic: I recommend to use a tiny bit of fresh garlic for this recipe. This deepens the flavour.

How to keep homemade BBQ sauce

It lasts 10 days in the fridge. You can add the sauce into an ice cube maker and freeze it for 3 months. Whenever you need, just put the amount you need into a microwave and defrost. The fresh bbq sauce is ready.
