Healthy, Wholesome Ingredients
You can make these healthy, wholesome banana oatmeal cookies simply with your regular kitchen staples.
OATMEAL
Rolled oats (old-fashioned oats) work for this recipe. Make sure the oats you use are gluten-free certified if needed.
I also add oat flower because it soaks excess liquid from the wet ingredients. This binds the ingredients together well and makes it easy to handle the cookie dough.
If you don’t have oat flower, no worries. Simply check out the recipe note on the bottom.
CHOCOLATE CHIPS
I recommend using dark or low sugar chocolate chips as the banana already adds natural sweetness.
ALMOND BUTTER
I use almond butter as its flavour isn’t overpowering. You can also use banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with peanut butter.
NUTS
I use walnuts but you can use any of your favourite nuts. If you don’t use nut butter, replace it with two tablespoons of coconut or avocado oil. Olive oil’s savoury flavour isn’t great for this recipe.
BANANA
The secret weapon of this oatmeal cookie recipe is banana. Banana works as a binder of the ingredients and adds natural sweetness. I recommend using extra ripe bananas, but make sure it’s not so ripe that the peel is brown.
Frozen and thawed bananas don’t work so well for this recipe.
How to Make Banana Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
These banana oatmeal cookies are moist, chewy and extra thick and you can make them in only one bowl. You can also make them in advance!
All you need to do is mix the ingredients with mashed bananas in a large bowl. Then bake the cookie dough in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
That’s it! Serve immediately! Enjoy!
Tips for the Best Breakfast Cookies
You can keep the cookies fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for five days. Make sure that they’re cooled down on the baking plate before storing.
My best favourite way to enjoy these oatmeal chocolate banana cookies are to leave them in the fridge. Make them cool. This is perfect especially in summer.
You can freeze for up to two months. Simply leave them in the fridge and thaw overnight before serving.

MIKLIA Breakfast Cookies:
Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 medium bananas
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- ½ cup oat flour*
- ½ cup dark or semi sweet chocolate chips (85g)
- ⅓ cup crushed walnuts (33g)
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup almond butter (125g)
- 2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Prepare the cookie sheet with parchment paper or your silicone baking mat on a baking plate. Set aside.
- Mash bananas with a folk or masher in a large bowl.
- Add all the ingredients and combine them with a spatula or spoon. Mix them up until all of the ingredients become even and well combined.
- Place two tablespoons of cookie dough (for each cookie) onto the cookie sheet. The dough can yield eight cookies.
- Slightly flatten the cookies by gently pressing the top with hands or the spoon. No need to make too much space between the cookies as dough won’t expand or flatten as it cooks.
- Bake for 15 minutes until cookies are slightly golden brown at the edges. Completely cool the cookies before serving.Serve immediately. Enjoy!
